Co-existence
I grew up in the same house in the same neighborhood my entire life: Bukchon. To me, the surrounding shops, trees, and even concrete blocks define “home.” To others, it is simply a tourist attraction.
Bukchon is filled with gorgeous Hanok’s (traditional Korean homes) showcasing Korea’s culture. Accordingly, it draws foreigners and Koreans alike wanting to experience what many may deem the true “Korea.” Due to the influx of tourists, Bukchon has become increasingly modern - featuring newer buildings, landlines, and constant construction."
Using black & white film photography, I captured the modernization of “my home” and its new identity as a neighborhood where the old and new coexist.
